Hermes Agent
The open-source agent that remembers — and learns from what it remembered
Hermes Agent is an open-source AI agent built by Nous Research, released in February 2026 under the MIT license. It accumulates memory across sessions and writes its own skills as it solves new problems.
This is not an Arvor product. It's a coverage page: we follow Hermes because persistent memory is exactly the problem we attack in our own agents. When an open project solves part of it well, we study it instead of pretending we didn't notice.

What it is and why it matters
An agent that doesn't start over.
Most agents marketed as having "memory" store a shallow summary of the last conversation and call it continuity. Hermes was designed from the ground up for the opposite problem: accumulating context and turning experience into new capability.

Hermes carries forward what it learned, not just what was said. That's the difference between a single-turn assistant and a long-term collaborator.

It writes its own skills
When it solves a new problem, it turns the solution into a reusable skill. The second time around, the same task runs faster and cheaper.

MIT licensed, multiple LLM providers, MCP support and messaging channels. You run it on your own infrastructure and audit the code — no vendor cloud required.

Persistent memory is the problem we're attacking with Memento. Hermes is the clearest public case of an agent that compounds context instead of resetting — so we read its code, not just its release notes.
