Architecture
Four decisions that aren't up for negotiation.
After two decades building search for large operations, the first question from any security architect was always the same: where does the data live. Memento answers it before anyone has to ask — on your disk.
Local-first, literally
Memento runs on your machine. Your data doesn't go to a server of ours, or anyone's, by default. That's not a privacy line on a landing page — it's the architecture.
Provenance over vibes
Every answer carries where it came from: which conversation, which file, which date. An agent that remembers without pointing to a source is guessing, not retrieving.
Safe by default
No open port by default, no telemetry shipping your content out, no convenience feature that quietly widens the attack surface.
Written in Rust
A native engine with no heavy runtime behind it. It runs on your laptop the same way it runs on a server inside your company.
What it already ingests
Your history of working with AI already exists, scattered across half a dozen formats, each with its own structure and its own mess. Memento pulls it into one place you control.
Where we are, unvarnished
Memento is early. We have no launch date and we're not going to invent one. What's next is opening up more ingestion formats and making the provenance architecture auditable by anyone who wants to look under the hood.
